    Whuzoo development pipeline, 2013

These are the next big things that we are focused on - in order of priority

    Afrikaans Level 0 programme
    • For grades 1-3 English students learning Afrikaans as a first additional language
    • This will establish the foundation for the Afrikaans Level 1 programmes
    • It will give the foundation phase learners a core vocabulary of about 300 words with pronunciations
    • It will also have pictures that develop the visual association with the core vocabulary words
    • The standard programme will include the Test functionality that checks the learners spelling
    • Customised programmes will probably include the reading of the stories associated with each grade, i.e. Die drie beertjies and possible some songs or rhymes.

    English Level 1 programme
    • This will be the first Whuzoo home language programme
    • Many parents and teachers have requested this support (much to our surprise initially) based on the fact that the kids don't often hear the correct pronunciation and many are battling with spelling
    • This programme will be based on the Level 1 programmes we have developed to date - but with English prompts
    • It will be aimed at grade 4-7 English learners and will have a wordbase of approximately 2,500 words, phrases and sentences categorised into about 150 Themes
    • All words, phrases and sentences will have pronunciations and the standard Testing functionality

    eLearning / mobile apps
    • Many schools are embarking on eLearning and are wanting curriculum support for the mainstream tablets and smartphones (iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows)
    • We will embark on our 3rd significant development effort to adapt and extend the base Whuzoo system so that it can 'run on the web'
    • We will make the Whuzoo programmes available via an internet platform that will allow learners to use the programmes via a standard web browser or via an applet on their mobile device
    • This will also extend the functionality of the Whuzoo programmes and will give language educators the ability to match the language programme Themes to the school's curriculum
    • Language department's can then create customised programmes tailored to their school's syllabus and can enhance these by identifying new Themes, Words, Phrases and Sentences
    • New words, phrases and sentences will then be validated and passed onto the sound engineering department where the pronunciations will be recorded and mastered
    • Similarly, language educators can regularly update their programmes by adding rules to the relevant Themes as well as Songs
